Drill Powered Operation

When you're hitching up before a long day of fishing, or putting away your boat before cleaning your catch, you want to be able to do it with about as much effort as casting a line. But sometimes it can be a real pain in the arm to crank your boat trailer up and down, even when the sun and rain isn't beating down on you.

An action shot shows a drill positioned on the Trailer Valet's hand crank attachment point, ready to go to work

Trailer Valet was thinking of you when they made this jack. Just slot the included drill attachment into your power drill's 1/2" chuck, remove the handle from the jack's driveshaft, and attach the drill in its place. Squeeze the trigger slowly to avoid too much torque off the bat. This will wind the gears at top speed, lifting or lowering your trailer in no time.

Quick Tip: While your power drill is meant to make operation faster, the higher torque it creates may mean a reduced lift capacity. If you'd rather get more lift capacity out of the jack, we suggest sticking with the included hand crank instead.

Rough Powder Coat Has More Wrinkles for Less Rust

Most rust-resistant coatings, like zinc, go on smooth. But this creates one big drawback: smooth finishes are easy to scratch, exposing the bare metal beneath and allowing rust and corrosion to take hold. So, the bright, shiny finish you see on day one might not last as long as you'd like.

a close up look at Trailer Valet's unique wrinkled black powder coat finish.

Trailer Valet solves this issue by applying a rough powder coat finish on top of the zinc-nickel plated outer tube that's harder to scuff and scratch. Basically, by giving the jack a rougher "terrain," this finish helps keep the jack from aging too quickly.

Not only is this jack weather resistant, but you can safely submerge it in saltwater! It's difficult to see without taking the jack apart, but between the zinc-nickel plated tubes, there is a nylon sleeve that prevents water ingress. Though you'll want to make sure you rinse it off with freshwater after, just for good measure.

How to Determine the Lift Capacity You Need in a Jack

A trailer jack lifts your trailer high enough at the tongue to allow you to couple it with your vehicle. Usually, your tongue weight is about 10-15% of your gross trailer weight (GTW). For example, a 10,000-lb trailer has a tongue weight of 1,000 lbs to 1,500 lbs. To raise the tongue of a trailer this size, you'd need a jack that can handle a static load of no less than 1,500 lbs. And, yes, it's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time fishing.

My old center-mount jack was causing me to bottom out when backing into customer driveways since my trailer rides pretty low. This JXS swivel jack is perfect for my situation. It is also much more sturdy and well-built than the original. The drill crank option is great. Just be careful of your wrists as it does require a lot of torque when using the drill method.

My 1 star review comes not from actual product use, but because when I first received the trailer jack I was missing the bracket that connects to the tongue of the trailer. When I contacted etrailer they were very helpful, and allowed me to pay for expedited shipping so I could hopefully be able to use my new jack in the trip I bought it for. I receive the reship in time, but they sent me the bracket clamps instead of the bracket. I call customer service, they apologize and refund me for the expedited shipping, and since there is no part number we both pull up the manual and I describe the part I need and it’s name, she describes it back to me we seem to both understand what part I am still missing. I return from my trip only to find that they have sent me a second pair of bracket clamps, but still not the bracket that I need. So I send them an email including pictures from the manual of the parts I need and they tell me they will send the bracket not the bracket clamps. I received the second reship today…lo and behold I receive a 5th bracket clamp and still no bracket. Hopefully third reship is a charm.

I am sorry to hear that you were sent the wrong parts multiple times! I have forwarded your pictures to our customer service department for them to get this actually corrected for you.

Absolute game changer!!! This type of jack should have been designed decades ago lol.

I bought this to replace my top mounted trailer jack because I had an incident where my tailgate on my truck just randomly unlatched and got wedged in-between the truck and the trailer jack and it destroyed my tailgate on my truck.

This is its replacement to prevent it from ever happening again.

This thing is a time saver over having to hand crank the trailer up and down and it all can be done with a drill without a problem. It has a grease zert on it which is a nice touch since so many of them out on the market are lacking one. If you’re unsure about this trailer jack, listen to me when I tell you "JUST DO IT" you won't be disappointed.

by:

Very well built product, easy install and as expected great customer service from etrailer

I really liked the drill feature that allows you to raise/lower the jack with a drill, fast!

The only suggestion I would have for the mfr of the product would be to size and machine the shank of the socket that raises and lowers the jack to work with either a drill or a driver.  Otherwise it’s a great product and I’d buy again and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a well built trailer jack.

Thanks etrailer!

by:

Best Jack I have ever owned. After six years of owning the trailer and replacing three other jacks this one looks to last for the life of the trailer. I really like being able to remove it.

by:

This has been a great addition! Our trailer has a unique gooseneck tongue that when fitted for our generator ramp, left very little room for a lift. This perfectly fit the task!

by:

Awesome trailer jack for my ski boat trailer!
Have
had it a year and works perfect!

by:

The trailer Valet has been great and allowed me to remove the factory jack that would hit my tailgate when opened. This side mount is completely out of the way of the tailgate and is much better quality as well.

by:

Very well product. Convenient to lower and lift the jack with the drill attachment. Only issue I had was the mounting the mounting bracket wasn’t long enough for the screws to catch but I made do with some other brackets I had.

This jack comes with hardware that will fit with a frame up to 4.75 inches x 3.75 inches. And it does require 8 inches of clearance.

by:

Awesome service and extremely fast shipping. Had my trailer jack in 2 days. Will buy from and definitely recommend to others etrailer when needing trailer parts.

by:

Nice product. Would be nice if the mounting bolts were galvanized. Using less drill torque would be beneficial, but would probably increase the cost/price.

Product is still working well. It is nice to have the option of using a cordless drill or the hand crank.

I am 75 and pulling a 20' bay boat. I was having trouble cranking the stock jack. Bought this and it is outstanding. Works like a charm. Couple of tips. Keep your drill in your vehicle and the crank in your boat. Drill will kick back if you try to go to0 fast. Slow and steady gets it done. Great product. Thanks George for your recommendation on this.

@RickH Trailer Valet does indeed make a great jack, glad you're happy with it!

We use our 16' trailer for everything from round bales to furniture to scrap to hauling cattle. I got tired of repairing/straightening/replacing the standard jack when my children wouldn't crank it up all the way. A year out and this thing has solved all my problems...at least with the jack.

by:

Iam a charter captain in Florida and this jack is on my boat trailer. Boat is 5,500#. It saves me time with no more cranking. Also saves my back as I have a bad back. Love it. It may be a little to light for my application but works fine. All my buddies said they need to buy one lol.

by:

Easy install, looks way better than stock ones and allow me to remove the A Frame jack that was an issue with the tailgate of my truck.

by:

After owning this trailer jack for one year, I can say it’s the best trailer jack I have ever owned. I put this trailer jack on a 26 foot Aluma flatbed trailer. I purchased an extension because it’s a very high trailer. This trailer jack is extremely easy to use. I can leave my equipment on the trailer and jacket off the truck with ease. The added convenience of using my Dewalt driver to raise and lower the jack is awesome although I don’t use it often. Well I miss placed it. Dang it. Oh well, it’s awesome though the whole thing all around with or without that it’s amazing piece of hardware that makes every day use safe and simple. Thank you each trailer. I haven’t seen this anywhere else even a large trailer manufacturer that is down the road for me saw it and thought wow that’s really cool. Because it is awesome! These are the pictures I could come up with.

by:

Works great with my cordless drill. A real back saver for someone who has had 2 major back surgeries.

by:

My second JXS Trailer Valet. Sturdy, simple to install, easy to adjust, excellent design. Great product!

by:

Trailer Valet JXS Trailer Jack is powerful and smooth operating. It looks great also with the textured finish. The bolt on design means quick installation with no welding. The folding stowaway system will prevent dragging the base in the dirt like vertical welded tongue jacks can. I love the electrical drill operation capability! I would not hesitate to buy this jack again!

by:

I’m so lazy now! This thing is great. Saves time and my arm.

by: 03/16/2023

Well Made and very versatile!

3/17/2024

It is a great and helpful product. It is sad that the manufacturer chose to put an oddball fitting on the crank nut so ONLY YOUR DRILL SOCKET WILL FIT. If your customer misplaces the socket you are Stuck. Greed abounds!

by:

Works great especially with a good drill to operate it.

by:

Overall it's great, but the rust is showing faster than i would have expcected. The mounting bolts are rusting already and the grease zirk is rusting. For a device that is made to be outside it should have a bit more rust preventative parts to it.

by:

Used for my dump trailer, works great

by:

It’s a heavy duty jack. Could not ask fir a better jack.

  • Can Caster Wheel Be Added to Trailer Valet TV64FR 5K Capacity Trailer Jack
You could add a caster wheel like part # JC-101 to the # TV64FR jack, however if you were to do so, the 5K capacity of the # TV64FR jack would be reduced to the 1200 lb capacity of the caster wheel. If the tongue weight of your loaded trailer is less than 1200 lbs, adding the caster wheel would be an acceptable modification.

  • What Capacity Jack is Needed at Minimum to Support 3,100 lb Boat and Trailer
A trailer jack only needs to support the tongue weight, which for a boat trailer is something like 5 to maybe 10 percent of the weight of your loaded trailer, because so much of the weight is at the rear of the trailer. To be absolutely sure you will need to know your tongue weight by using a scale like the etrailer Tongue Weight Scale # e99044 but we can make a good guesstimate. With a 3,100 lb boat, since the trailers themselves are usually fairly light you can get away with a 2,500...

I really like this jack since it comes with the power drill attachment so you don't have to manually crank it if you have a drill handy. As long as your frame is no larger than 4-3/4" tall x 3-3/4" deep this will work for you.
